Advice

So, while I'm pondering, I thought I'd ask you, O Wise Friends in the Computer:

What book/s or website/s about adoption would you recommend? Which do you think is the best? Why?

As you can probably tell, I'm feeling better about broadening our family-building options. We are also sort of considering embryo donation, but more towards adoption or foster-adopt.

I think this new rx combo may be helping in that I can tell a difference in the way I'm thinking, but I am still dragging a lot, lots of anxiety (especially around going to bed for the night and getting into the shower. Maybe it's leftover trauma? We'll see.) Still not getting much work done. It's only been 10 or 11 days, and half that at the full dose. We shall see.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I look forward to your suggestions!

I'm afraid I've got nothing on this end, except other bloggers who you may or may not already be reading, who may be able to offer some advice...
Luna(her adopted daughter just turned one)

And LoriBeth, who is living childfree after losing her beautiful daughter Katy to stillbirth. She is an avid reader and an amazing person to boot.

If my links don't work, e me and we can try again:)

You sound better than I've heard you in a long time, so maybe it is the combination of the rx and the new options and that bitch, time, that seems to open doors for us long after we thought they were locked up tight....

www.forums.adoption.com. You can pretty much find a discussion group on any type of adoption you are considering. Domestic, international, infant, older child, etc. They've got it all.

It is what it is said...

I don't have any resources for you on the adoption front other than to encourage you to check the Resolve website for local adoption seminars in your neck o the woods (I attended my first adoption seminar put on by Resolve in 1/2008 and have attended another 3 put on by the adoption firm we will use if & when).

If you are considering embryo donation and are not interested in embryo adoption (which I think is a load of cr*p), then your best bet (other than your clinic, if they have an embryo donation program) is Miracles Waiting (which is a matching service for embryos (donors post a profile, recipients post a profile and you both take it from there if there is interest)).

I am pursuing both domestic adoption and embryo donation at the moment and am happy to share what I know.

I don't know any specific web sites - but would love to share my adoption story with you if you are interested.

My daughter is 5 now. We brought her home from Guatemala when she was 10 months old. It is by far the most wonderful thing that I have ever been able to do.

You need to be thinking about how you are going to handle telling adoption agencies about your mental health issues. You may also want to talk to other people with depression/anxiety who have adopted and get their opinions on how to handle what you are going to reveal and not reveal. If I'm not mistaken, you have been getting treatment for a while, and your doctors are going to be required to fill out forms on your medical history. This could hamper your plans somewhat. Not to scare you, but just to make you aware that you are going to have to handle the issue carefully and plan ahead. I think it's great that you are moving forward and I really think adopting is going to give you a new outlook on life. After my miscarriage, I was treated for anxiety and depression for about two years. When we started the international adoption process, my mental health treatment was somewhat of a hurdle. But it depends on the agency and the country you are adopting from. Just do your reasearch. Good luck with this!

Not "Adoption For Dummies." ;-)
No recommendations, but a smile at the difference in your electronic voice. Humor! Interest! It's different. I'm glad you're feeling a difference, too...must be such a relief! Can't wait to hear more (even if progress is bumpy).
XOXOXOX

I have to admit, I haven't read a lot of books on adoption. But Luna's blog, definitely, as Kalakly recommended above. Another mom who chose open adoption & has written some wonderful stuff about it is Lori Lavender Luz at Weebles Wobblog:

Good luck! : )
